The difference is in the action. A diagonal cutter closes two wedges together and pushes the conductor apart, which on fine stranded cable splays the strands and leaves a flattened, ragged end. A scissor action shears past itself, slicing cleanly through the bundle and leaving the strands together in a round, square-cut end. That end goes straight into a ferrule or a terminal without you having to twist and reshape it first, and a properly seated conductor is what stops a termination heating up later.

The curved blades also hold the cable rather than letting it slide forward as you close, which is what makes cutting a thick flexible cable one-handed possible at all.

At 6" it suits the flexible and stranded cables used in control panels, appliances, machine wiring and general installation work.

A limit worth stating: this is a cable tool. Cutting steel wire, screws, nails or armour with it will notch the shearing edges immediately and ruin the clean cut that is the entire reason to own one. Keep a pair of side cutters beside it for hard material.

VDE/GS certified to EN60900, built and individually tested for live working to 1000V AC, with each tool proof-tested well above its rating.

The two-colour insulation is a wear indicator: contrasting inner and outer layers, so that any damage through the outer one shows the inner colour and tells you the tool must be withdrawn from service.

The same caution applies as to any cutting tool: do not cut live conductors. A cutter shorts a circuit as it closes, and the arc flash is a burn and eye hazard that handle insulation does nothing to stop. Isolate, lock off, prove dead.
