The four slotted drivers run 2.5, 3.0, 5.5 and 6.5mm, and the three Philips cover PH0, PH1 and PH2. That spread is deliberate. The small 2.5mm slotted and PH0 are for control terminals, instrument connections and appliance work; the 5.5 and 6.5mm and the PH2 are for distribution board terminals, socket and switch fixings and gland plates. Using an oversized driver in a small terminal chews the screw head, and an undersized one in a large terminal cams out and cannot be tightened properly — and an under-tightened terminal is a connection that heats up and eventually fails.

The 140mm voltage tester is the item that should never leave an electrician's pocket. It tells you whether a circuit is live, which is the step everything else depends on.

The blades are S2 steel, hardened and tempered. S2 is a tool steel chosen for driver blades because it resists the tip rounding off under load — a rounded tip cams out, and camming out damages the screw and the terminal.

VDE/GS certification to EN60900 means each driver is built and individually tested for live working at up to 1000V AC. Note that the insulation runs down the blade and stops short of the tip, which is intentional: it leaves only the minimum bare metal needed to engage the screw, so there is no exposed shank to bridge to an adjacent terminal.

The two-colour handles work as a wear indicator — if the inner colour shows through, the driver goes out of service.

And the principle behind all of it: isolate, lock off, prove dead with the tester, then work. Insulated tools are there for the circuit that turned out to be live when it should not have been.

The handles are shaped for grip, which on a driver matters directly, since torque is limited by how hard you can hold it.
