Two extra inches changes what you can get at. Deep enclosures, the back of a distribution board, motor terminal boxes, cable trays and trunking runs, and anywhere a conductor has to be retrieved from behind other equipment — those are jobs where a 6" tool leaves your knuckles in the enclosure and the 8" does not. The longer handles also give noticeably more grip force at the jaws for the same effort, which matters when you are twisting stranded conductors together or pulling a stiff cable through.

The trade-off is honest: a longer nose flexes slightly more at the tip and is less precise for very small work. Most electricians who do a lot of panel work end up owning both sizes for exactly that reason.

Certification is VDE/GS to EN60900, meaning the tool is built and individually tested for live working up to 1000V AC. That testing is done on every tool, at a voltage well above the rating, rather than on a sample.

The two-colour insulation is a working wear indicator. The handle is moulded in two contrasting layers; if you can see the inner colour anywhere, the outer layer has been cut, abraded or melted and the tool must be withdrawn from service immediately. It is a simple system and it only works if the person holding the tool knows to look.

Slip guards at the top of each handle stop your hand sliding forward onto the metal — a small feature that matters exactly once, at the worst possible moment.

Worth repeating for anyone new to insulated tools: they are the last line of defence, not a working method. Isolate, lock off, and prove dead with a tester. The insulation exists for the circuit that turned out to be live after all.
