That is how cutters work: the longer the handles, the more force reaches the jaws for the same grip. On a 7" tool that translates into cutting larger conductors, heavier stranded cable and thicker cable ties without straining the tool or your hand. If you have ever squeezed a 6" cutter with both hands and still not got through the cable, this is the tool that was needed — and using the smaller one that way is exactly how cutting edges get chipped.

The angled jaws let you cut flush against a panel, board or terminal without the handles fouling on the surrounding work, which is what a diagonal cutter is for in the first place.

It is the sensible general-purpose size for installation work: mains cable tails, larger circuit conductors, armoured cable inner cores, and trimming heavier cable ties on tray and trunking.

VDE/GS certified to EN60900 — designed and individually tested for live working up to 1000V AC, with every tool proof-tested at a substantially higher voltage than its rating.

The handles are moulded in two contrasting colours as a wear indicator. If the inner colour shows anywhere, the outer insulation has been damaged and the tool must be taken out of service. It is worth building the habit of glancing at the handles before use rather than after an incident.

One safety point that applies specifically to cutters and is worth stating without hedging: do not cut live conductors. Closing a cutter across a live circuit shorts it, and the arc flash that follows is a severe burn and eye hazard that handle insulation does nothing to prevent. The insulation protects you if you touch something live; it does not make cutting into a live circuit safe. Isolate, lock off, and prove dead with a tester every time.
