The angled jaws are the point of the design. Because the cutting edges sit at an angle to the handles, you can cut a conductor flush against a terminal, a board or a panel wall without the handles fouling on whatever is around it. Anyone who has tried to trim a cable tie or a conductor tail in a crowded consumer unit with straight cutters understands immediately.

At 6" it suits the conductor sizes electricians handle most: lighting and power circuit conductors, control and instrument wiring, cable ties, and trimming stranded ends square before they go into a terminal. A clean square cut matters more than it looks — a ragged or crushed end does not seat properly in a terminal, and a poor termination is what heats up later.

Be realistic about capacity. A 6" cutter is not for heavy cable or steel; forcing it through something too thick chips the cutting edges, and once chipped it will never cut cleanly again. For larger cable, use the 7" cutter or a proper cable shear.

The two-colour insulation is a deliberate wear indicator: two contrasting layers, so that a cut, abrasion or burn through the outer layer exposes the inner colour and tells you the tool must be withdrawn. Check the handles as a habit before working, particularly around the tips where they get dropped.

Cutters get a particular warning. Never cut a live conductor with them, insulated or not — a cutter shorts the conductors together as it closes, and the resulting arc flash is a serious burn hazard that no handle insulation protects you from. Isolate, lock off, prove dead.
