A combination plier grips, twists, bends and cuts, and the 6" insulated version is the compact one — the plier for working inside an enclosure rather than pulling cable.

The design puts three tools in one head: serrated jaws at the tip for gripping flat and small work, a rounded pipe grip behind them for round section, and cutting edges at the throat. For an electrician that combination covers most of what a job needs — twisting stranded conductors together before a connector, gripping a locknut, pulling a conductor straight, trimming a tail, bending an earth tail to shape.

The 6" size is chosen for space and control rather than force. Inside a consumer unit or a control panel a larger plier fouls on everything, and the shorter handles let you work with one hand in a confined enclosure. It fits a pouch or a shirt pocket.

The honest limit is grip force. Short handles mean less mechanical advantage, so for pulling cable through conduit or gripping something genuinely tight, the 8" version is the right tool and this one will only frustrate you.

VDE/GS certified to EN60900, which means built and individually tested for live working at up to 1000V AC — each tool proof-tested well above its rating, not spot-checked from a batch.

The two-colour insulation works as a wear indicator: two contrasting layers moulded together, so damage to the outer one exposes the inner colour and tells you plainly that the tool is finished. Check the handles regularly, especially near the tips.

And the point that bears repeating on every insulated tool: it is protection against error, not permission to work live. Isolate the circuit, lock it off, prove it dead. The insulation is there for the day the isolation was not what you thought it was.

Fine chrome vanadium, hardened and tempered, black finish and polish, with slip guards on the handles to stop your hand sliding onto the metal.
