That distinction matters for the work this is made for: angle grinding, cutting and wire brushing, where fragments come off at speed across a wide arc; chipping and scaling; and handling chemicals, where the risk is a splash across the face rather than a particle into the eye. The 275mm polycarbonate visor covers from forehead to below the chin.

Polycarbonate is the right material and not a cost choice. It is the toughest of the common clear plastics against impact, which is why it is used for machine guarding, and it does not shatter — a cracked PC visor stays in one piece rather than becoming fragments in front of your eyes.

The headgear is PP with a ratchet adjustment and a sweatband. The ratchet is what makes it wearable: a shield that has to be forced on and off, or that slips down as you move, gets abandoned within a day. The sweatband matters in this climate specifically — a hot, wet band on the forehead is one of the main reasons people push a shield up and work without it.

It flips up, so you can inspect the work or talk to someone without removing the headgear, which again is about whether the protection is actually being worn when the sparks fly.

One important limitation, stated plainly: a face shield is secondary protection. It is not a substitute for safety glasses or goggles underneath, because the sides and the gap beneath are open, and grinding debris ricochets. The correct arrangement for grinding is glasses plus a shield, not one or the other. It is also not welding protection — it has no filtering for arc ultraviolet.

Replace the visor when it becomes pitted or crazed enough to obstruct your view, and immediately after any significant impact — polycarbonate absorbs an impact by deforming, and it does not protect the same way twice.
