Two hundred and fifty by five hundred millimetres is the large stainless steel square, and the size is the whole point of it.
Squareness errors are proportional to the distance you measure over, and a small square simply cannot see them. Lay a 150mm blade into the corner of a large frame or a sheet of ply and it reports that the first 150mm is square — while the panel drifts a millimetre further along and finishes several out at the far end. A 500mm arm reads more than three times as much surface and catches errors the small square is blind to. On door and window frames, large carcases, full sheets of board, staircases, roof members and structural setting out, that reach is not a convenience, it is the accuracy.
Both arms are graduated, so this sets out as well as checks: marking cut lines across sheet material, laying out framing, transferring dimensions, and squaring assemblies during glue-up.
The graduations are embossed — formed into the metal rather than printed — so they survive being slid across timber and handled all day. A printed scale wears off first in exactly the places you grip and use most, and a square whose numbers have gone is a square you no longer trust.
The material is high quality stainless steel at HRC greater than 30. That hardness is right for a reference tool: enough to resist the burrs and knocks that would ruin a true edge, not so much as to be brittle. Stainless keeps the edges and the graduations from being attacked by rust, which is the way measuring tools quietly die in this climate.
The buyers are carpenters and joiners, door and window manufacturers, cabinet and furniture workshops, shopfitters, sheet metal fabricators, staircase makers, building contractors, and hardware dealers supplying woodworking and construction trades.
Check it on arrival and after any drop, with the flip test: one arm against a known straight edge, scribe along the other, then turn the square over onto the same edge at the same point and scribe again. The lines coincide if the square is true, and diverge by twice the error if it is not. On a square this size that test is very sensitive, which is exactly what you want.
Store it hanging rather than in a pile, because a large thin square is easily bent and a bent square is finished. Message us on WhatsApp for a price.
