Identifying an unknown thread is a small problem that stops jobs, and a screw pitch gauge solves it in seconds. The tool is a folding set of thin steel leaves, each cut with the tooth profile of one specific thread pitch. Hold each in turn against the thread until one seats perfectly — no gaps, no rocking — and the marking on that leaf tells you what you have.
Getting this right matters more than it might appear. Threads that are close but not identical will start, turn a few times and then bind or strip, and a bolt forced into the wrong thread destroys the female thread it goes into — which is usually the expensive part. Metric coarse and fine pitches at the same diameter are easy to confuse by eye, and so are inch threads of similar count. A gauge removes the guessing.
Fifty-two leaves is a comprehensive set and it covers both worlds, which is what makes it genuinely useful here. The metric side runs from 0.25 to 6.0mm pitch, taking in every common coarse and fine metric thread. The inch side runs from 4 to 62 threads per inch, covering the imperial threads found on older machinery, imported equipment, plumbing fittings and a great deal of British and American plant still in service in Sri Lanka. Owning only one of those two sets is how a job stops.
The leaves are stainless steel, surface polished. Stainless is the right choice for a gauge: the leaves are thin and finely toothed, they live in a toolbox among oil and damp, and a rusted leaf is both hard to read and no longer accurate at its tooth tips.
The buyers are engineering and machine shops, vehicle and plant mechanics, maintenance fitters, plumbers and pipe fitters, machinery importers and repairers, toolrooms, and hardware dealers supplying workshops.
Two practical notes. Clean the thread before gauging it — dirt or a damaged crest will make a correct leaf seem wrong. And hold the gauge against a strong light while you check, since the test is whether any light shows between the leaf and the thread; a leaf that looks right in shadow will often show a gap against a lamp. Fold the leaves away after use rather than leaving them exposed, because bent tooth tips make a gauge lie. Message us on WhatsApp for a price.
