At 25mm the blade has the standout to make the length worth having. Width governs how far a tape reaches out unsupported before it buckles, because a wide blade has a deeper curve across its section and that curve is what keeps it rigid. There is no value in extra length if the blade folds down at two metres, which is why long tapes are made wide.

The blade is 0.12mm thick 65Mn spring steel and the rewind spring is heat treated. The alloy is a high carbon manganese spring steel chosen because a tape blade must coil into a tight roll and spring back dead flat thousands of times without taking a permanent set — the fault that makes a cheap blade develop a wave and stop lying flat on a surface, at which point it cannot be read accurately. The spring is the component that usually ends a tape's life: it weakens, the blade stops returning fully, and the tape is finished while the blade is still good.

The case is high impact ABS with a strong belt clip. This is the plain-cased line; the rubber over-covered tapes in the range are the ones to choose if the tape will live on a hard site floor.

Two habits. Do not let the blade snap back — at seven and a half metres there is real energy stored in it, the hook arrives at the case hard enough to bend, and a bent hook reads wrong in one direction and quietly puts every measurement out. Feed it home under control. And keep the blade dry, wiping it as it returns after working in the wet, because a long blade coiled tight in a closed case rusts from the inside where nobody looks until it is too late.
