It is worth being straightforward about where it sits in the range. It has the same 0.12mm 65Mn spring steel blade as the rubber-covered tapes, the same heat-treated rewind spring, the same strong belt clip and the same high impact ABS case. What it does not have is the rubber over-cover. On a tape that lives on a hard site floor and gets dropped from a ladder daily, that cover is genuinely worth paying for. On a tape that lives in a drawer, a toolbox, a van glovebox or a shop counter, it is paying for protection you will not use.

Nineteen millimetres is the compact width. Blade width governs standout — how far the blade reaches out unsupported before it buckles — because a wider blade curves more deeply across its section and that curve is what holds it rigid. A 19mm blade does not reach as far as a 25mm one, but the case is smaller and lighter and actually fits in a pocket. For measuring where the far end is within reach, that is the better trade.

The blade material is worth a word. 65Mn is a high carbon manganese spring steel, the family used for saw blades and spring components, and it is specified because a tape blade must coil into a tight roll and spring back dead flat thousands of times without taking a permanent set. Cheaper blades develop a wave and stop lying flat, and a blade that will not lie flat cannot be read accurately along a surface.

Two habits that make any tape last. Catch the blade rather than letting it snap home — the hook hitting the case at full speed is what bends hooks and breaks springs, and a bent hook quietly puts every measurement out. And keep the blade dry, wiping it as it rewinds after wet work, because steel coiled tight in a closed case rusts where you cannot see it.
