75mm is the general-purpose scraper width — broad enough to clear ground quickly, narrow enough to stay under control on a surface that is not perfectly flat.
That balance is why it is the one most decorators reach for first. On a door, a skirting run, a window board, a section of wall or a panel, a 75mm blade lifts a useful width per stroke without demanding the perfectly even pressure a 100mm blade needs to stay flat. On an uneven or old surface, a wide blade rides up on the high spots and misses everything between them; 75mm bridges less and cuts more.
The blade is stainless steel, tempered and quenched. Stainless is the right choice for a tool used on wet paint, wallpaper paste, damp filler and fresh render — carbon steel rusts fast in those conditions and a rusty blade drags and marks the surface. The tempering is what keeps the edge from rolling over when it meets a nail head or a hard patch of filler.
The metal continues through the handle so the end can be struck with a hammer. That is the feature that lets a scraper work as a light chisel — driving under thick layered paint, breaking off hardened adhesive or render, lifting stuck trim — without splitting the handle apart, which is what happens on a tool without a through-tang.
Work at a low angle and push away from you. Steep angles dig in and gouge whatever is underneath, which on timber means damage you have to fill afterwards, and on plaster means a hole.
Dress the edge square with a file when it stops cutting cleanly. A rounded scraper edge burnishes the surface rather than lifting anything off it, and it is the most common reason people believe a scraper has "gone blunt" beyond use.
The buyers are painters and decorators above all, then joiners, shopfitters, glaziers, and building and property maintenance teams.
We stock 50mm for detail and glazing work and 100mm for broad areas. Ask on WhatsApp and we will price a set of all three, delivered island-wide.
