The six functions are genuinely used, not marketing. The straight edge removes putty and old filler. The flat spreads new filler into a crack or a nail hole. The half-round cutout scrapes a paint roller clean — which sounds trivial until you realise that failing to do it is why rollers dry hard and get thrown away, and why the next coat picks up bits. The sharp point opens up a hairline crack into a V so filler has something to key into, which is the step people skip and the reason filled cracks reappear. The middle hole lifts nails. And the whole blade works as a scraper.

The blade is high carbon steel, heat treated and tempered — the right specification for a tool that has to hold several different working edges and take being levered with.

The design point that matters is the blade running right through the handle. That is what allows you to strike the end with a hammer to drive the point into a crack or under stubborn material, and it is what stops the handle snapping off when you lever with it. A tool with a blade merely pinned into a handle fails at that joint, which is where all the force goes.

The handle is beech, which is the traditional choice for a struck tool: dense, tough and comfortable in a wet hand in a way plastic is not.

One practical note: opening a crack out before filling is the single biggest improvement most people could make to their filling work. A crack filled as a hairline has almost no filler in it and no key, and it opens again with the first movement in the building. That is what the point is for.
