Here is the problem it solves. A cartridge of sealant is under pressure from the rod, and when you release the trigger that pressure does not stop — it keeps pushing sealant out of the nozzle for a second or two afterwards. Over a day that means a continuous small waste of material, sealant running down the outside of the nozzle, drips on the floor and on the work, and a bead that starts too heavy every time you resume. The drip-proof mechanism releases the rod pressure automatically as you let go, so the flow stops when you stop.

The aluminium handle is the other difference. It is lighter than steel, which matters when the tool is held up at a window head or along a ceiling line for a long run, and it does not corrode in a bag that has had wet silicone in it.

The frame is fine steel with a smooth pushing rod. The rod is what determines whether the bead comes out evenly: a rough or bent rod binds and releases in surges, and surges show in the finished joint.

It takes standard 300ml cartridges.

The advice that improves sealing work more than any gun: cut the nozzle at 45 degrees and only as large as the joint requires, because most untidy beads are simply too much material. Push the gun along the joint rather than dragging it, so the sealant is forced in rather than laid over the top. And tool the bead within a couple of minutes, before it skins — a wet finger works, a shaped tool works better.
