A cup brush presents its wires as a flat ring facing straight down, so it works best held square to a flat surface. The trouble is that an angle grinder is not comfortable to hold square to a surface: the natural, controllable way to hold one is tilted, with the body of the machine up away from the work. Held like that, a cup brush contacts on one edge only, which cleans a narrow arc and wears the brush unevenly.

A bevel brush has its wire face angled outward instead. Hold the grinder at the tilt you naturally use and the bevelled face lands flat on the work. The whole face is cutting, coverage per pass goes up, the brush wears evenly, and the machine is in a position you can actually control for an hour at a time.

The angled form also reaches into places a cup cannot. Internal corners, the junction between a plate and a web, the inside of an angle or channel, the root of a weld in a fillet joint: all of these are geometry a flat cup rides over and a bevel gets into.

For weld preparation and cleaning in fabricated steelwork, that combination is why fabricators keep one on the shelf.

The wire is 0.5mm in twisted knots, so this is the aggressive pattern for mill scale, slag and heavy corrosion rather than for light cleaning. The catalogue spells the name Belvel, which is a typographical error for bevel.
