The diameter is what gives depth of cut. A larger blade projects further below the shoe of the saw, so it passes through thicker material in one pass, which matters for structural timber, thick board, stacked sheets and deeper sections. Sixty teeth on that diameter then gives a cut that is clean as well as deep, which suits joinery and site work where the material is substantial but the finish still matters.

Since this is a large blade, it is the right place to raise something about carbide teeth that people should know and rarely hear.

The teeth are brazed onto the steel body. That joint is strong and reliable in normal use, but it can be damaged, and a tooth that leaves a blade running at full speed is a projectile with real energy behind it. What damages it is impact and heat: hitting a nail, a screw or a masonry fixing hidden in timber, or letting the blade overheat because it is blunt or clogged and being forced.

So look at a blade before fitting it. Missing teeth, chipped carbide, a dark line or gap at the braze, or a blade that has visibly discoloured from heat are all reasons to retire it. It feels wasteful to bin a blade that still cuts, and it is far less wasteful than the alternative. Check reclaimed timber for nails before cutting it, and never fit a cracked blade at all.

Always use the guard, and let the blade reach full speed before entering the material.
