Stripping Disc (Φ100x16)

A stripping disc is an open, coarse, springy web of synthetic material with abrasive bonded through it, rather like a very aggressive scouring pad made rigid enough to spin. That open structure is the whole point. It attacks a coating and tears it off, while the web flexes over the metal underneath rather than cutting into it.

That is what separates it from the alternatives. A grinding disc removes coating and metal together, and on sheet or panel steel it will thin the material and leave gouges that show through the new paint. A knotted wire brush strips heavy material well but scores the surface and rounds off edges and detail. A stripping disc takes paint, rust, adhesive residue, underseal, gasket material, scale and old coatings off and leaves the parent metal essentially as it found it.

So this is the tool for panel and bodywork preparation, for stripping a gate or a railing without thinning the section, for cleaning weld areas before painting, for removing old adhesive and sealant from steel, and for taking coatings off without changing dimensions.

It is a consumable and it behaves like one. The web loads up with the material it is removing, particularly with soft paint and adhesive, and it wears down in diameter as it works. Both are normal.

Check the bore before ordering. This one is 16mm, which suits some 100mm grinders; the 115mm and 125mm discs listed alongside have 22.2mm bores. The bore must match the machine's spindle flange.
