There is a temptation to treat a hand brush as what you reach for when there is no power available. It is not. A great deal of cleaning work is better done by hand simply because a powered brush is too much: too fast, too aggressive, too indiscriminate, or impossible to hold against a small part. A welder knocking slag and spatter off a bead between passes does not want a grinder in his hand every thirty seconds. A mechanic cleaning a thread, a mating face or a battery terminal wants to feel what he is doing. A painter preparing a small patch wants to take off the loose material and nothing else.

Five rows gives a broad enough face to cover ground while staying narrow enough to work along a weld or into a corner. The wooden handle is comfortable over a long session and does not get hot, which matters when brushing a surface immediately after welding.

It is also the brush that lives in a toolbag rather than a workshop, and it cleans files, moulds, castings, grinding wheels, barbecue grills and machinery as readily as it does welds.

One note on the catalogue entry. The specification refers both to steel wire of 0.33mm and to stainless steel wire, which are different materials with different uses, and as written the line is not clear about which this brush has. That matters if you work on stainless, because carbon steel bristles leave particles embedded that rust later and stain the job.
