Eight millimetre holes take the larger plastic and nylon plugs and the smaller frame fixings, which is what you want for heavier brackets, shelving carrying stock, television and equipment mounts, door and gate hardware, cable tray and larger trunking runs, and pipe supports.

This is a good bit on which to talk about flutes, because flutes are why bits die and almost nobody thinks about them. The spiral grooves running up the bit are not decoration and they are not simply left over from making it. Their job is to carry crushed dust up and out of the hole. Drilling concrete produces a surprising volume of very fine powder, and if that powder cannot escape it packs into the space around the bit. Once packed, three things happen quickly: the tip stops reaching fresh material so cutting slows to nothing, friction rises sharply, and the heat has nowhere to go. Heat is what finishes the bit, because the carbide tip is brazed onto the steel body and enough heat weakens that joint.

The cure is simple and takes no time. Withdraw the bit from the hole every so often while it is still running, so the flutes sweep the dust out, then go back in. On a deep hole do it several times. People who do this get several times the life out of a bit, and people who lean on the drill until it stops cutting blame the bit.

The double narrow land flute pattern here is designed for that clearance, and the tip is a hammer grade carbide.
