Concrete, block, brick and render all contain silica. Drilling them produces a very fine dust, and the finest particles are the ones that matter because they are small enough to reach deep into the lungs and stay there. The damage is cumulative and silent: it does not hurt at the time, there is no cough that afternoon, and the consequences arrive years later as permanently reduced lung function. That is precisely why it gets ignored on site.

None of the protection is difficult. A proper fitted dust mask rather than a loose cloth one, and it has to seal against the face to do anything at all. Work with ventilation, or outdoors where possible. Wet the surface or use a dust extractor where the job allows. Do not stand directly under a hole you are drilling overhead, which is the worst position of all and also the most common on services work. And clear up with water or a vacuum rather than sweeping, because sweeping simply puts the fine dust back into the air an hour later.

At 22mm and 350mm you are making a substantial hole through a wall, so the volume of dust is significant and the drilling takes long enough to matter.
