Depth is what gives an anchor its strength. A short embedment relies on a small cone of concrete around the fixing, and that cone is what fails, taking a lump of the wall with it. Going deeper puts the expanding part of the anchor into sound material well away from the surface, which is why anchor manufacturers publish a minimum embedment and why exceeding it is usually better than just meeting it. A 350mm bit gives you the reach to do that, and to pass through a thick base plate, packer or timber first.

Which leads to the single most ignored step in anchor work, and the reason fixings fail in walls that were perfectly sound. Clean the hole out before you set the anchor. Drilling leaves a hole lined with fine powder, and that powder sits between the anchor and the concrete like talc. A mechanical anchor expanding into a dusty hole is gripping dust, and a chemical anchor bonding to a dusty hole is bonding to a layer that will shear off the wall. Blow the hole out, brush it, and blow it again. It takes half a minute and it is the difference between a fixing that holds its rated load and one that holds a fraction of it.

Long bits also want a steadier hand: start the hole with the machine held square and do not force it sideways, because a long bit will flex and wander and the hole will come out crooked.
