SDS-PLUS Extra Flat Chisel (14x250x50)

A wide blade spreads the hammer's energy across a broad edge, so the pressure at any one point is much lower. That sounds like a disadvantage and for breaking concrete it is. What it is excellent at is getting underneath a surface layer and lifting it off without digging into whatever is beneath. That is exactly what you want when you are removing a covering rather than demolishing a structure.

So this is the tile chisel, the render chisel and the screed chisel. Lifting floor and wall tiles and the old adhesive under them, stripping failed or blown render off a wall, taking up thin screed or levelling compound, removing old bitumen, paint build up and coatings from concrete. Held at a shallow angle it slides along under the layer and pops it off in pieces, and because the load is spread it is far less likely to gouge the substrate you are trying to keep.

The trade is that it will not break concrete. Ask a 50mm blade to cut into a slab and it will bounce, because the energy per millimetre of edge is simply not enough. Use the point or the 20mm flat for that and keep this one for surface work.

Two habits: keep the angle shallow, and keep the blade moving forward under the material rather than stabbing at it. And as with every SDS chisel, hammer only mode, rotation off.
