Look at the two side by side. The crimped brush has loose wavy filaments. This one has its wires gathered into tight twisted knots, and the wire itself is heavier, 0.5mm against 0.3mm. Those two changes together transform what the brush does.

A twisted knot behaves almost like a solid tool. The wires cannot flex individually because they are bound to their neighbours, so instead of sweeping across a surface they hammer at it. The effect is closer to a very aggressive abrasive than to a brush. It strips heavy mill scale off new steel, takes weld slag and spatter off, removes thick built up paint and coatings, and cuts through deep corrosion of the kind that has been developing through a few monsoons.

The honest counterpart is that it will not stop there. A knotted brush used carelessly will score and remove parent metal, round off sharp edges and details, and leave a surface texture you may not want. On thin sheet, on a panel you intend to paint smooth, or on anything where the shape matters, the crimped brush is the correct tool and this one is too much.

Neither is better. They are different levels of aggression and the job decides.

A full face shield is essential with knotted brushes in particular, because the heavier wire carries more energy when it breaks free.
