A wheel presents its wires around the rim, so it cleans along a line and works well in a groove or against an edge. A cup presents them as a ring facing forward, so it cleans an area, and it does it while you approach the work head on rather than side on. On a flat face, the inside of a housing, the bottom of a recess, or a panel you are working towards rather than across, that is the difference between the brush reaching the surface and skating past it.

At 50mm on a shank it is a small, controllable tool for exactly the situations where an angle grinder is unusable: inside a machine, in an engine bay, on a component clamped in a vice, on parts too small to hold against a big machine. Vehicle mechanics use them constantly on earth points, mating faces, bolt bosses, brake backing plates and corroded contact surfaces, all places where the metal must be clean but must not be reshaped.

The crimped 0.3mm wire is right for that. It springs, it conforms, and it lifts corrosion and paint without cutting into the parent metal or rounding off the edges of a small part.

Speed discipline applies here as with all shank brushes: a moderate drill setting, the shank held short in the chuck, and no attempt to make it work faster by pressing. Pressing folds the wires over so they clean with their sides instead of their tips, which cleans less and destroys the brush.

Eye protection, and keep the workpiece clamped rather than held, because a brush that snags on an edge will snatch a small part out of your fingers.
