One hundred millimetres of brush is a substantial wheel. Six point three five millimetres is a slender shank. Put the two together and you have a large rotating mass carried on a thin stalk, and the consequences are entirely predictable if you run it fast. The shank flexes, the wheel begins to wobble, the wobble feeds itself, and you end up with a brush that hammers rather than brushes, sheds wire heavily, and can bend the shank permanently or snap it.

The answer is simply to run it slowly. Use the lowest speed setting your drill has, or feather the trigger, and hold the shank as short in the chuck as you can. At sensible speed this is an excellent brush: it covers a great deal of ground for a shank tool, follows a long weld or a plate edge quickly, and is the one to choose when a 75mm wheel is taking too long but a grinder would be too coarse or would not reach.

It is also the size where it is worth thinking about whether a grinder mounted brush is really what you want instead. If the surface is large, open and flat, a cup or bevel brush on a grinder will do it faster and with less strain on everything. The 100mm shank brush earns its place where you need that coverage in a position or on a part that rules a grinder out.
