Bi-Metal Hole Saw (32)

A hole saw has to do two contradictory things. The teeth must be hard enough to cut steel, timber and board without going blunt in a minute. The body must be springy enough to survive being twisted, jammed and flexed in a hole without shattering. Hardness and toughness pull in opposite directions: make the whole thing hard enough to cut well and it becomes brittle enough to crack, and make it tough enough to survive and the teeth will not hold an edge.

Bi-metal is the answer. A strip of high speed steel, hard and heat resistant, is welded to a body of tough alloy spring steel, and the teeth are cut into the high speed steel edge. You get cutting edges that hold up and a body that flexes rather than snapping. It is the same principle as a bi-metal hacksaw blade, and it is why these cut steel where a plain carbon steel hole saw would not.

Thirty two millimetres is a services size: conduit and small pipe penetrations, cable glands and entries, tap and valve holes in sink and worktop material, and holes in trunking, panels and enclosures.

This size runs on the 32-64mm arbor we list, so it and that arbor are the complete pairing.

The maximum cutting depth is 38mm, which is the depth of the cup and therefore a hard limit on the thickness of material it can pass through.
