The physics are straightforward and unforgiving. A saw of this diameter has a great deal of leverage over the drill holding it, so when the teeth snag on something, and eventually they will, the reaction goes straight into the machine and then into your wrists. It happens fastest at breakthrough, when the last of the material gives way unevenly and part of the rim is still cutting while part is in fresh air. A drill that kicks at 152mm will hurt somebody who is holding it one handed.

So: both hands, side handle fitted, the lowest speed the drill has, and stand so that if the machine twists you are not braced against your own joints. If your drill has a mechanical clutch, set it. If you can clamp the workpiece, clamp it.

The other thing worth doing at this size is cutting from both faces where you can reach both. Cut until the pilot drill breaks through and the teeth have marked the far side, then work from the other face to meet the first cut. Both faces are then cut cleanly instead of one being torn out, which on a visible ceiling or panel is the difference between a finished job and a repair.

Openings this size take large extractor fans, ventilation grilles and louvres, air conditioning penetrations, and large service and access holes.

Maximum cutting depth is 38mm, so it is for sheet, board and panel rather than masonry, and the arbor it needs is larger than the two listed on the site. We hold that arbor in stock and will send it with the saw.
