Bi-Metal Hole Saw (127)

Every hole saw cuts a ring and leaves a disc of material, the slug, sitting inside the cup. On a small saw it drops out or comes free with a screwdriver. On a 127mm saw the slug is a substantial plate, it is often wedged tight, and if you are cutting a thick board it can be gripped hard enough that levering it out takes real effort. Get into the habit of removing it after every single hole, using the slots in the side of the cup and a screwdriver through them, because a saw with a slug still in it cannot start the next cut at all.

There is a trick worth knowing for stubborn ones. Cut a shallow groove first, stop, and drill two or three holes through the waste disc with an ordinary bit before finishing the cut. They give you something to push against from the back afterwards.

At 127mm this is fan and grille work: extractor fans through partitions and panels, large ventilation grilles, air conditioning penetrations, and large service access. Bi-metal construction means it will cut steel sheet as well as board and timber.

Maximum cutting depth is 38mm, so it is a sheet and panel tool, not a wall tool.

Run it slowly and hold the machine firmly with both hands. A saw this size that snags will twist a drill hard, so the side handle is not optional.

The arbor required for 127mm is larger than the two listed on the site. We stock it; ask for it with the saw and we will send both.
