Fifty millimetres is a useful middle. It removes material noticeably faster than the one inch wheel because more abrasive meets the work on every revolution, while still being small enough to control in a drill and to get into most of the places that matter on fabricated work: along a weld seam, inside larger tube and box section, around brackets and gussets, into the web of a channel, and across the awkward middle ground that is too tight for a grinder and too big to do at one inch.

Sixty grit makes it a working grade rather than a finishing one, so this is a wheel for dressing welds, deburring cut edges, removing rust and scale, and cleaning up fabricated joints before painting.

Since this is the size most people buy first, one point about matching the wheel to the machine. A flap wheel is rated for a maximum speed, and that rating falls as the diameter rises, because it is the surface speed at the rim that matters rather than the revolutions. A drill running flat out is often faster than a two inch wheel wants. If your drill has a speed control or a variable trigger, use it; if it has two gears, use the low one. A wheel run over its rating throws its flaps off and does so without warning.

Hold the shaft short in the chuck, keep the pressure light, and let the abrasive cut rather than forcing it.
