A hook and loop, or velcro, backing means the disc attaches to a soft backing pad rather than being clamped between flanges on a spindle. That is how discs are mounted on SANDERS and POLISHERS. It is not how an angle grinder works, and a 230mm disc is far too large to be spun at angle grinder speeds in any case. A large grinder turns a 230mm accessory at around six thousand revolutions a minute, and abrasive intended for a sander is not rated for anything like that.

So before ordering, check what your machine is and what speed it runs at, and check that the backing pad on it is 230mm. If the pad and the disc do not match in diameter, the overhanging edge of the disc has nothing supporting it, which is how discs tear.

Used on the right machine, the advantage is real. Hook and loop lets you change grits in seconds without tools, and since abrasive work depends on stepping through grades in order rather than skipping them, anything that makes changing grit quick is something you will actually do rather than avoid.

At 230mm this is a large area tool: floor and deck preparation, big panels and plate, boat hulls and tank sides, rendering and filler taken back over wide surfaces, and general work measured in square metres rather than centimetres.

Sixty grit is the coarse working grade for taking material off and levelling.
