Three point two millimetres is one eighth of an inch. And one eighth of an inch is the standard body diameter of the most common blind rivet in the world, the 3.2mm pop rivet used on sheet metal work, ducting, signage, vehicle panels, trailer bodies, gutters and light fabrication everywhere.

That is why this size exists in a range that otherwise steps in halves and whole millimetres. It is not a general drilling size, it is the rivet size, and having it on a quick change hex shank matters because riveting is repetitive work done in position. You drill, you swap to the riveter, you drill again, often up a ladder or leaning into a duct, and a bit that changes with one hand saves real time across a hundred rivets.

Getting the hole right matters more with rivets than people assume. A hole that is too tight will not let the rivet body through, or will distort it as it is forced in. A hole that is too large lets the rivet body sit loose, so when the mandrel pulls and the tail forms, the joint has play in it from the start and works loose under vibration. Drill it at 3.2mm, drill both sheets together where you can so the holes line up exactly, and deburr the back face, because a burr holds the sheets apart and the rivet then clamps onto a gap.
