A spark plug socket is not an ordinary socket, and the differences are what stop you breaking a plug during a routine service.
It is deep, so the whole plug including the insulator sits inside it, and it holds the plug with a spring retainer. That retainer is the important part. A plug sits at the bottom of a well in the cylinder head, often 100mm down; without something to hold it, a loosened plug drops back into the well and has to be fished out, and a new plug dropped down a well can crack its insulator. A cracked insulator means a misfire that gets blamed on the plug being faulty.
The T-handle format suits the job. Plugs are not tight — they are torqued modestly — but they are deep and often awkwardly angled, so what you want is controlled turning with the socket held square, and fast spinning once they are loose. A T-bar gives both, and unlike a ratchet it needs no swing room in a crowded engine bay.
The 16mm size is the smaller of the two plug sizes and is the common one on many modern engines, particularly the smaller Japanese petrol engines that make up much of the local fleet.
The socket is chrome vanadium with a heat-treated spring — heat treatment matters on the spring specifically, because a spring that has lost its temper stops gripping and you are back to fishing plugs out of wells. The handle is dipped for grip with oily hands.
A few practical points that save engines. Blow the well out before removing a plug, or grit falls into the cylinder. Never fit a plug with force — a cross-threaded plug in an aluminium head is an expensive repair — start it by hand or with the socket held loosely. And do not over-tighten: plugs have modest torque figures and over-tightening damages the thread and the crush washer.
The buyers are vehicle mechanics and three-wheeler workshops, motorcycle repairers, small-engine and generator servicing, and owner-mechanics doing their own routine work.
We stock the 21mm size for older and larger engines. Message us on WhatsApp and we will price both, delivered island-wide.
