Grease Flexible Hose

The problem it solves is simple and constant: grease nipples are almost never accessible in a straight line. They sit behind a wheel, under a chassis rail, inside a guard, at the back of a pivot — positioned by a designer who was thinking about the bearing, not about the person who has to grease it. A rigid hose needs the gun square on to the nipple. A flexible one lets you hold the gun wherever there is room for your hands and take the grease round the corner to the fitting.

It also lets you keep your hands away from the machine, which matters if the fitting is near something hot or sharp, and it takes the strain off the coupler — with a rigid connection, any movement of the gun levers on the nipple and can snap it off.

This is heavy-duty nylon hose, which is the right material because a grease gun develops very high pressure. Nylon holds that pressure while staying genuinely flexible, and it does not perish in contact with grease and oil the way rubber eventually does.

It is made for the Harden 670101 500cc grease gun. The 900cc double-pump gun comes with both a flexible and a hard hose already included, so this is the part to buy if you have the 500cc gun, or as a replacement — and hoses are a wearing part, since they get trapped, dragged and eventually split at the ferrule.

One safety note worth repeating for anyone using a grease gun: the pressures involved will inject grease through skin, and a grease injection injury needs immediate surgical attention despite looking trivial. Never point a coupler at your hand to test flow.
