500CC Pro Grease Gun

The lever action is what makes it usable one-handed. You hold the gun against the nipple with one hand and work the lever with the other, and each stroke delivers a measured shot of grease. That matters when the nipple is underneath a machine or behind a wheel, which is where nipples always are.

The head is heavy-duty cast construction, and that is the part that decides how long a grease gun lasts. Grease guns generate serious pressure — enough to force grease past a seized nipple — and the head takes all of it. A pressed or light alloy head distorts, and once it does the gun leaks around the piston and stops building pressure.

The follower rod and spring keep constant pressure behind the grease so it feeds to the pump consistently. A gun that loses that pressure starts pumping air, which is the most common complaint about cheap grease guns and the reason people think a gun has failed when it merely needs priming.

One genuine safety point that is not widely known: the pressure a grease gun develops is high enough to inject grease through skin. A grease injection injury looks trivial — a small mark on a finger — and is a surgical emergency, because the grease spreads under the skin and causes tissue death. Never test a gun against your hand, and never try to clear a blocked coupler by holding it against your palm.
