A 3/4" drive socket set is a different animal from the 1/2" set most people start with. This is the size you reach for when a 1/2" ratchet has already flexed, slipped or rounded a nut — heavy vehicle work, earth-moving plant, structural steel, industrial machinery. The 27-piece Harden set covers that job properly, and it arrives in one case rather than as pieces bought over years.
The sockets are forged chrome vanadium, the standard alloy for impact-adjacent hand tools because it takes hardening without turning brittle. There are 22 of them, running 19mm all the way to 60mm — 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 38, 41, 46, 50, 55 and 60mm. That top end matters: 55mm and 60mm sockets are exactly the sizes that are impossible to buy locally when you need one at short notice, and a 3/4" set without them is only half a set.
They are bihexagonal — twelve-point. Twelve points let you re-seat the socket every 30 degrees instead of every 60, which is the difference between turning a nut and not turning it when you are working against a chassis rail or inside a wheel arch. On badly corroded fasteners a six-point socket grips better, so the honest advice is that this set is built for access and range rather than for shifting seized bolts.
Alongside the sockets you get a flipper ratchet, a 450mm sliding T-bar, extension rods at 4" and 8", and a universal joint. Those four pieces are what make the set usable rather than just complete. The slider gives you real leverage on a stubborn nut without a cheater pipe; the universal joint reaches fasteners that sit at an angle to the socket; the extensions get you down into a recess. A universal joint on 3/4" drive is a genuinely useful inclusion — most sets at this size leave it out.
This is a set for garages working on lorries, buses, tractors and three-wheeler chassis work at the heavier end, for plant and generator maintenance, and for fabrication shops bolting up structural steel. It is not a set for light automotive or household work — for that, a 1/4" or 1/2" Harden set is the right buy and considerably cheaper. Hardware shops stocking for the trade tend to keep one or two of these on the shelf rather than a row of them, because they sell to a specific customer who knows exactly why he needs 3/4" drive.
