Those two sockets, 16mm and 21mm, are the sizes that cover the great majority of petrol engines, and they are not interchangeable with ordinary sockets: a plug socket is deep enough to swallow the whole insulator and carries a rubber insert that grips the porcelain, so the plug comes out with the socket instead of dropping back into the head. Trying to change plugs without one is how insulators get cracked.

The sixteen hex sockets run 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 22, 24, 27, 30 and 32mm. The important part of that list is the top end. 27, 30 and 32mm are hub nut, crankshaft pulley and large suspension sizes — the ones a general household set stops short of, and the ones you cannot improvise with an adjustable wrench without damage.

The ratchet is a two-component handle with 72 teeth — five degrees of swing before it catches, so it works in the confined spaces this set is designed for, and a soft-grip handle that stays usable with oil on your hands.
