Fourteen millimetres deep covers M10 studs in the Japanese fastener pattern, which puts it on suspension and steering fixings, engine and gearbox mounting studs, larger manifold and downpipe flanges, driveline components and heavy bracketry on the vehicles most common in Sri Lanka.
The job it does that nothing else will is reaching a nut on a long stud. On any stud, the thread deliberately continues past the nut, and a standard socket bottoms out on that thread before its hex reaches the flats — it cannot seat, and no amount of force changes that. The deep barrel swallows the stud and lets the socket engage properly.
At this size a second consideration appears: wall thickness. A deep socket has to be slender enough to fit into whatever recess it is reaching into, and the wall between the internal hex and the outside is what carries the load. On a large deep socket that wall is doing real work, which is why forging matters more here than on a small one. This socket is drop forged, meaning the steel is heated and driven into a die so its internal grain flows around the hexagonal shape rather than being cut through it. Every socket concentrates its stress at the six corners of the hex, and a socket machined from bar has its grain severed at exactly those points. On a long thin-walled barrel that difference decides whether it splits.
The material is fine chrome vanadium with a matt chrome finish — chromium for hardness and wear resistance, vanadium for grain refinement and toughness, plating to resist the oil, water and salt that a socket lives among.
The buyers are vehicle and light commercial mechanics, suspension and exhaust specialists, agricultural and plant fitters, engine and gearbox rebuilders, maintenance workshops, and hardware dealers supplying garages.
Three habits. Use a standard socket wherever it will reach, since a short barrel is stiffer and better aligned on a tight fastener. Seat the socket completely before applying force. And never use a chrome hand socket on an impact wrench — plated hardened chrome vanadium is brittle under impact hammering, cracks and throws pieces at speed. Impact tools take black chrome molybdenum impact sockets, which is exactly why those are a separate range. Ask us on WhatsApp for a price on this or a full deep set.
