This is the big grinder, and it is bought for one reason: reach. A 230mm disc is twice the diameter of the small machine, which means it cuts more than twice as deep in a single pass. Concrete slabs, kerbs, paving, thick plate, heavy sections, cast pipe and large-diameter tube are jobs the small grinder simply cannot finish, and this is what finishes them.
Read the supply line carefully, because on this tool it is a serious matter. The plate says 110V while Sri Lankan mains is 230V, so a step-down transformer is compulsory. At 2100W the arithmetic on the 110V side comes to about nineteen amps, which is a substantial current — this is not a job for a light transformer bought for a hand drill. The transformer must be rated to carry it continuously, and undersizing it will either trip the supply or cook the transformer. Tell us if you already own one and we will check its rating against this tool before you spend anything.
The motor is 2100W and it turns at 6000rpm. Six thousand sounds slow next to the small grinder's eleven thousand, and it should — a bigger disc has to turn slower to keep its rim within the same safe speed. Work the numbers and both machines drive their disc edge at very nearly the same rate; what changes is how much disc is in the cut at once. That is exactly why this tool needs 2100W: it is pushing far more abrasive through the material every second.
Weight and torque are the two things to respect. A machine this size cannot be controlled one-handed, and a 230mm disc storing this much energy does not forgive a snatched cut. Use the side handle every time, stand so the wheel is not spinning towards your legs, let the tool come to full speed before it touches the work, and never twist the disc in a cut. The guard is in the box for the same reason the handle is — fit both and keep the guard between the disc and your body.
A wrench and a spare pair of carbon brushes come with it. The brushes are worth having in the case, because a hard-worked grinder eats them, and a machine that suddenly loses power and sparks inside its housing has usually just worn a set out.
The buyers are concrete cutting and demolition crews, steel fabricators working in heavy section, road and drainage contractors cutting kerb and pipe, and quarry and yard maintenance. Hardware dealers who supply contractors rather than households are the ones who sell this size.
Use only 230mm discs rated at or above 6000rpm, and check every disc for cracks before it goes on. Full face protection, not just glasses. Message us on WhatsApp and we will quote the grinder with a correctly rated transformer and a box of discs.
