115mm Angle Grinder

A 115mm angle grinder is the small one, the one that lives in the van, and its size is the whole argument for it. The disc is 115mm across, it weighs little, and you can run it one-handed in places a bigger grinder will never reach — inside a frame, along a wall, down beside a fixed pipe. Most of the grinding and cutting done on an average job is this size, and the larger machines come out only when this one cannot reach or cannot reach deep enough.
Before you buy it, check the supply. This is a 110V tool and Sri Lankan mains is 230V, so it needs a step-down transformer between the wall and the plug. At 900W it draws a little over eight amps at 110V, so the transformer has to be rated for that and not the smallest one on the shelf. We will price the two together rather than let you find out at home.
The motor is 900W and it spins at 11000rpm with no load. That speed is not arbitrary. Every abrasive disc has a maximum safe rim speed, and a small disc has to spin much faster than a large one to reach the same cutting speed at its edge — 115mm at 11000rpm and the 230mm machine at 6000rpm actually work their rims at close to the same speed. It is also the reason you must never fit an oversized disc to a small grinder: the guard will not cover it and the rim would be flung far beyond what it is rated for.
The 900W matters for a different reason. Cutting depth on a 115mm disc is limited by the disc, so what power buys here is the ability to hold speed under load — a grinder that bogs down burns discs and glazes them. On rebar, angle iron, thin sections, tile and blockwork, 900W keeps the disc cutting rather than rubbing.
The disc guard, side handle and wrench are all in the box, and every one of them is a safety item, not an accessory. The guard is what stands between you and a disc that shatters; fit it and set it between the disc and your face. The side handle gives you the second point of control that stops a kickback turning the tool on you. A spare pair of carbon brushes is included too, which is the part that wears out first — when a grinder starts sparking heavily inside the housing and losing power, the brushes are usually the whole problem, and having a set already in the case saves a trip.
The buyers are steel fabricators and welders dressing joints, building trades cutting rebar and tile, vehicle workshops cutting bolts and rusted fixings, and maintenance teams. Hardware dealers move more of this size than every other grinder together.
Wear eye protection every single time, and use cutting discs for cutting and grinding discs for grinding — a cutting disc loaded sideways is how they break. Ask on WhatsApp and we will quote grinder, transformer and discs as one.
