This is the larger of the two socket fusion sets, and the case for it comes down to two things: how fast it recovers between joints, and what arrives in the box with it.
Take the power first. Rated 2000W on 220 to 240V at 50Hz, against 800W for the smaller machine, and the difference is not weld quality — the joint temperature is set by the thermostat, adjustable here from 0 to 300°C, and both machines make the same weld when used correctly. What the extra wattage buys is recovery time. Every time a cold pipe and fitting are pushed onto the heating plate they pull heat out of it, and the plate has to climb back before the next joint. On 20 and 25mm pipe that happens quickly on any machine. On a continuous run of 50 and 63mm joints — a riser, a plant room, a commercial installation — a lower-powered plate falls behind, and the temptation to start the next weld before it has recovered is exactly what produces a joint that looks perfect and separates under pressure. If you are doing that kind of work all day, this is the machine.
The base is aluminium die casting rather than steel, which gives a more rigid mounting for the plate and the stand, and heating sockets are supplied in 20, 25, 32, 40, 50 and 63mm. It welds PP-R, PB, PE and PE-RT, covering the plastic pressure pipe used in building services here, and comes with a CE-approved 1.8m plug and cable in a steel box.
The accessory list is the other half of the argument, because it is effectively a complete installation kit: a 3m measuring tape, a PVC pipe cutter covering 3 to 42mm, a screwdriver, a hex key and a pair of gloves. That is not padding. The cutter means every pipe end is square, which is the single biggest factor in a sound fusion joint. The gloves matter because the plate runs hot enough to give a serious burn instantly and the pipe is hot when it comes off. The hex key and screwdriver are for changing sockets, which you will do many times a day on a mixed installation.
The buyers are plumbing and mechanical services contractors on commercial and multi-storey work, installers running large-diameter PP-R risers and mains, industrial maintenance departments, and hardware dealers supplying contractors rather than households.
The discipline is the same as on any fusion machine and it is what separates good installations from callbacks. Bring the plate fully up to temperature before the first joint, cut square, mark insertion depth so the pipe cannot be pushed in far enough to choke the bore, and time both heating and holding rather than judging by eye. Insert straight, never twisting, and hold until set. Clean burnt plastic off the sockets with wood, not steel, or the coating goes and pipe starts sticking. Ask on WhatsApp for a price on the set, or for a comparison against the 800W machine if most of your work is domestic.
