Torx Screwdriver with Soft Handle (T25 5x100)

It appears constantly on vehicle interior and body fixings, appliance and equipment casings, machinery covers, furniture and cabinet fittings, and construction screws — a great many decking and structural screws now use T25 rather than a cross-head, precisely because it takes far more torque without damage.

That torque capacity is the whole reason Torx exists. A Torx recess is a six-pointed star whose driving faces sit almost perpendicular to the direction of turn, so it does not push the driver out of the screw. A Phillips recess does — it was deliberately designed to cam out at a set torque — which is why cross-heads round out and why a screw that needs real tightening is better served by Torx. Driving a long structural screw with a cross-head means fighting cam-out the whole way; with Torx the driver simply stays in.

Torx sizes are absolute rather than approximate: T25 is T25 whoever made the screw, and there is no near-enough. A T20 will spin in a T25 recess and round its points, and a T27 will not enter. Getting the size right is easier than with cross-heads but no less necessary.

The blade is 5 x 100mm in Cr-V 6150, tempered — chromium-vanadium spring steel, chromium for the hardness and wear resistance that preserves the six points, vanadium for the toughness that stops them chipping. The points are the vulnerable part of any Torx tip, and a tip with a rounded point slips in a recess that a good driver turns easily.

The handle is moulded TPR.
