The striking construction is the point. An ordinary screwdriver's shaft stops inside its plastic handle, so hitting it splits the handle or drives the shaft out. A striking driver runs the shaft the full length of the handle to a metal cap, so a hammer blow travels down the steel to the tip instead of into the plastic.

What that buys is the ability to shock a fastener free. Corrosion, paint and thread compound lock screws in place, and a sharp axial blow breaks that bond in a way steady turning never does — while simultaneously driving the tip hard into the slot so it is fully seated. Strike, then turn immediately while the tip is bedded in. On large seized slotted screws, which round out easily because nothing centres the driver for you, that sequence is often the difference between removal and drilling.

The 8mm blade is the heavy slotted width and it matters here more than usual. Big seized screws take real torque, and torque through an undersized blade concentrates force on a small part of the slot walls and rounds them. If the slot takes 8mm, use 8mm — particularly when you are about to apply shock and force together.

Three points. Strike squarely down the axis — a glancing blow bends the shaft. Wear eye protection, since shocking corroded fasteners throws rust, paint and scale. And penetrating oil left to work before you start will do as much as the hammer.
