The size suits the larger slotted screws found on machinery, electrical gear, panels, covers and general equipment, with enough shaft length to reach normal work comfortably.

Since this is the driver most likely to be misused, it is worth being direct about it. A screwdriver is not a chisel, a lever, a punch or a paint stirrer. Using one to prise a lid, scrape a gasket, lever a component or chip at something is the single commonest way good screwdrivers are destroyed — it bends shafts, chips tips and splits handles — and the large slotted driver is always the one people reach for because it looks robust. It is not designed for any of that. Keep a small pry bar, a scraper and a cold chisel, and this driver will still be square in ten years.

Blade fit is what protects the screws. A slotted head does not centre the driver the way a cross-head does, so location comes entirely from the blade filling the slot. Too narrow and the force bears on a small part of the slot walls and rounds them; too wide and the blade cannot seat and rides out under load.

The blade is Cr-V 6150, tempered — chromium-vanadium spring steel, chromium for hardness and wear resistance, vanadium for grain refinement and toughness, tempering to balance the two.

The handle is moulded TPR, which grips well in an oily hand.
