Using the correct size matters more at the large end than anywhere else, and the reason is torque. A big screw takes real turning force, and a PH2 driver in a PH3 recess sits deep in the middle and contacts only part of the recess walls — so all that torque is carried on a small area, which rounds the recess out in a turn or two. On a large screw holding something structural, a rounded head is a genuine problem to solve. If the recess is PH3, use PH3.

The 200mm shaft gives useful reach while remaining stout enough to turn hard, which suits the sort of work large cross-heads appear in.

The habit that saves cross-head screws applies with more force at this size. The Phillips recess was designed to cam out deliberately — pushing the driver out at a set torque to prevent over-tightening on early production lines — and the higher the torque, the harder it tries. Push into the screw as hard as you turn it. On big screws, using both hands, one pressing down on the handle end, is not excessive.

The blade is Cr-V 6150, tempered — a chromium-vanadium spring steel, chromium for the hardness and wear resistance that holds the flute form under high torque, vanadium for grain refinement and toughness. The handle is moulded TPR, and grip matters when you are turning this hard.
