PH2 by 250mm is a long-reach driver in the commonest cross-head size, and it is bought when a routine screw is a long way inside something.
Machinery casings, large enclosures, appliance interiors, ducting and equipment cabinets all produce the same situation: an ordinary PH2 screw that no ordinary driver can get to. When that happens, length is the only answer, and one long driver in the drawer is worth a great deal of dismantling time.
At 250mm the shaft twists appreciably under load and will bend permanently if used as a lever, so treat it as a reaching tool rather than a forcing one.
Since deep screws are the ones most likely to round out — you cannot see the tip, cannot press as squarely, and cannot easily change your grip — it is worth knowing what to do when one has already gone. Three things work, in ascending order of effort. A wide rubber band or a piece of thin rubber sheet laid over the rounded recess, with the driver pressed hard through it, fills the damaged flutes and will often grip well enough for one more turn; it costs nothing and works surprisingly often. If that fails and the screw head stands proud, cutting a fresh slot across it with a hacksaw or a thin cutting disc turns it into a slotted screw, which a broad flat blade will then turn. And if the head is flush or the screw is seized, a screw extractor set is the proper answer.
What none of those recover is time, which is why the pressure habit matters. The Phillips recess was designed to cam out on purpose — ejecting the driver at a set torque to prevent over-tightening on 1930s production lines — so push into the screw as hard as you turn, and steady the shaft with your free hand near the tip.
PH2 is the standard cross-head size and fits the great majority of screws in general use.
The blade is Cr-V 6150, tempered — chromium-vanadium spring steel, with chromium for hardness and wear resistance to hold the flute form and vanadium for the grain refinement and toughness a long slender shaft particularly needs. The handle is moulded TPR.
The buyers are appliance and equipment repairers, industrial and plant maintenance, machinery and equipment fitters, electricians working in large enclosures, vehicle technicians, and hardware dealers supplying servicing trades.
Two points. Check the tip regularly and replace it when the flutes have rounded, because a cross-head form cannot be dressed back by hand and a worn tip damages every screw it touches.
And the handle is grip only, with no tested electrical rating. Isolate and prove dead before any circuit work. Message us on WhatsApp for a price.
