That combination is common in equipment work: a small fixing at the bottom of a moulded recess, a screw inside a housing, a fastener behind a panel or down a channel. The screw itself is trivial, but a standard driver cannot reach it, and the alternative is dismantling something to get access.

The trade with a long slim shaft is feel. There is a little twist between your hand and the tip, so you get less of the feedback that tells you whether a screw is seating properly or beginning to strip — which on a small cross-head screw is exactly the feedback you want. Turn steadily and keep the pressure on.

That pressure is the important habit with any Phillips driver, and the reason is in the design. The Phillips recess was created to cam out deliberately: at a certain torque it pushes the driver up and out, which on 1930s assembly lines prevented over-tightening. That behaviour survives in every Phillips screw made and it is why cross-heads round out so readily. Firm axial force keeps the tip engaged, and a long shaft makes it easier to let that force slip.

PH1 fits the cross-head screws one size below PH2, and using the right size matters because Phillips sizes are distinct geometries rather than scaled versions — a PH2 in a PH1 recess bears only on the outer edges and destroys it.

The blade is Cr-V 6150, tempered — chromium-vanadium spring steel, chromium for hardness and wear resistance, vanadium for grain refinement and toughness. The handle is moulded TPR.

Two points. Replace a worn cross-head tip rather than trying to grind it — the form cannot be restored by hand and a rounded tip damages every screw it meets.
