Hex Adaptor (1/4"/3/8"/1/2")

Having all three is the point rather than a convenience. Most workshops accumulate sockets in more than one drive size: 1/4" for small work, 3/8" for engine bay and ancillary work, 1/2" for suspension and chassis. An adaptor in only one of those leaves the others tied to a ratchet, and it is invariably the size you do not have that the job needs.

What an adaptor buys is speed on repetitive work. Running fifty bolts out of a machine, a frame or a panel with a cordless driver takes a fraction of the time a ratchet does, and the ratchet then does the final tightening where feel and torque matter.

The material is 40Cr — a chromium alloy structural steel, hardened. That is the right family for a torque-transmitting component: the stress concentrates at the square drive shoulder, and 40Cr has the strength and toughness to carry it without twisting.

Two limits worth knowing. An adaptor is the weakest link in the torque path by design, so a large socket on a powerful driver through a small adaptor is how adaptors get twisted off — match the size to the work rather than adapting up.

And the important one: never use chrome hand sockets on an impact driver, with or without an adaptor. Chrome-plated hardened Cr-V is brittle under impact hammering, cracks, and throws fragments at the operator. Impact work needs black chrome molybdenum impact sockets and impact-rated adaptors; ordinary adaptors are not built for hammer loading either.
