A plain bit holder grips the bit by friction alone. That works until you turn the driver upside down, reach overhead, work at an angle or knock the tool against something — at which point the bit falls out, usually into whatever you are working inside. A magnetic holder keeps the bit in place regardless of orientation. It also holds the screw on the bit, which is what allows one-handed starting: pick the screw up on the tip, place it, drive it, without ever pinching it between finger and thumb.

At 150mm this is a long holder, and length is what it is bought for. It reaches into recesses, through countersinks, into cabinet carcases and past obstructions where a 60mm holder brings the chuck onto the work. The trade is a little more flex and a little less feel, so keep the driver square to the screw.

The construction is Cr-V with a stainless steel holder body. Stainless matters on a magnetic holder for a practical reason: the holder is constantly picking up steel swarf, drill filings and dust because it is magnetised, and it gets wiped clean constantly. A corroding body would go rough and start binding the bit.

Two habits. Wipe the magnet clean regularly — a magnetised holder collects swarf and filings, and a build-up in the bottom of the hex socket stops the bit seating fully, which makes it wobble and cam out of screws.

And check the hex socket for wear. Bits are harder than the holder, so the socket's corners round out over time, after which bits sit loose and start rounding screws for reasons that look like a bit fault.
