The practical case is straightforward: almost all general work uses those two tips, and carrying one tool instead of two matters when you are up a ladder, in a roof space, under a vehicle or working out of a pouch. It also means you are never in the position of having the wrong driver in your hand and the right one on the ground below you.

The 6 x 130mm shaft is a sensible general specification — a broad slotted blade suiting larger slotted machine and cover screws, PH2 at the other end covering the great majority of cross-head screws in use, and 130mm of length giving reach into normal work while staying controllable.

There is an honest limitation to a reversible driver and it is worth knowing. A fixed one-piece driver transmits torque through solid steel from handle to tip; a reversible shaft is held in a socket in the handle, and under very high torque there is a little more play and a little less feel than a dedicated driver gives. For general assembly and service work that is immaterial. For a large seized screw, a solid driver — or the striking driver in this range — is the better tool.

The shaft is Cr-V, tempered, with a moulded TPR handle.

Two habits. Make sure the shaft is fully seated in the handle before applying force, since a shaft not pushed home can twist in its socket. And push firmly into the screw as you turn — the Phillips end in particular is designed to cam out under torque, and pressure is the only defence.
