13" Heavy Duty Double Arm Riveter

At 13 inches it sits between a one-handed hand riveter and the 17 inch long-arm tool, and that middle position is a genuine sweet spot. It has enough leverage that 4.8mm rivets in steel set easily rather than with a hard squeeze, while remaining compact enough to use in places a 17 inch tool cannot reach and light enough to hold up for a run of overhead work.

The body is aluminium, which is what keeps the weight down on a two-handed tool that will be held out in front of you all day, with a comfortable grip handle.

The trade against a one-handed riveter is that both hands are on the tool, so the workpieces have to be clamped, tacked or held by someone else. On a bench or a production run that is no obstacle; on a ladder holding a panel in place it is.

Five interchangeable nozzles cover the popular rivet sizes. Fitting the correct nozzle for each diameter is not a detail — an oversized nose tip lets the rivet body deform where it should be supported, and the result is a joint that looks properly set and is loose.

Blind rivets work by pulling a steel mandrel through a hollow body so its far end bulges against the blind side, then snapping the mandrel at a designed weak point. That is why they join material accessible from one side only, and why the joint is permanent — removal means drilling the head off.
